Updated: 5 days ago

Nassau, Bahamas — September 27, 2025

“He’s flying in the air, it’s BahamaMan! Look over there, it’s BahamaMan! He can even lift planes, it’s BahamaMan. I stand for justice, it’s BahamaMan!

Those familiar lyrics of the groundbreaking, compelling “BahamaMan” song reverberated down Miami Street, Nassau, Bahamas on Saturday, September 27th, in the heart of the Englerston community.  Numerous patrons of Carrie’s Donuts, Jemima’s Playhouse’s sister company, had gathered, drawn by the original Jemima Playhouse music.  Drawn by Carrie’s Donuts’ signature dishes of tuna & grits, omelets, pancakes, and croissant sandwiches.  Drawn by the sheer anticipation of seeing Jemima’s Playhouse’s superhero, BahamaMan, finally emerge from his secret base (believed to be underneath the world-famous Glass Window Bridge in Eleuthera) to put the villain, Waste-A-Tron, in his place.

There was note-worthy sub-plot, one which caused a more than a few persons to forego attending the BahamaMan Returns Show.  A tropical disturbance Imelda was bearing down on Nassau.  It was expected to make landfall within the next twelve hours.  But this did not stop the show.   There was a small window.  The sky cleared up.  The rain which had fallen intermittently for the past few days almost mysteriously abated.  The only storm that excited attended experienced on that fateful Saturday morning was the long-awaited return of BahamaMan!

When BahamaMan made his appearance, it was not a moment too soon!  The villain, Waste-A-Tron, had already appeared, throwing garbage left, right, and center, leaving a trail of refuge in his wake.  He soared onto the stage and straddled it in menacing fashion.  Waste-A-Tron stood with a dubious smirk as if he ruled the world, awaiting the final confrontation. The tension built.

Suddenly, BahamaMan appeared!  Something remarkable happened which no script could have written: the children rushed forward en-mass, in one great wave, to greet their superhero!  They surrounded him with open arms. Laughing easily and tenderly BahamaMan greeted them.

“Go get Waste-A-Tron!” one boy admonished him with urgency.  And that is exactly what he did.  At the appearance of BahamaMan, Waste-A-Tron ran away in a hurry, as if his life depended upon it.  To the cheers of all attended, happy to see that order had been restored.

The event, staged at Carrie’s Donuts, was more than just a show. It was a community celebration. Guests enjoyed sweet treats from Carrie’s Donuts while witnessing the unforgettable battle between good and evil. Carrie’s Donuts partnered with Jemima’s Playhouse to host the landmark event, blending local flavor with global creativity.

BahamaMan and Waste-A-Tron are part of the roster of original Jemima’s Playhouse characters, created by Dr. Tyrone Sawyer and his wife, Dr. Jemima Sawyer. Jemima’s Playhouse not only stages live shows but also creates all of its original music and books, which engage children in Spanish, French, Geography, and Civics through fun, story-driven learning. Each year Jemima’s Playhouse reaches more than two million students in-person across Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Texas.

“We are so happy to bring BahamaMan home!” said Dr. Tyrone Sawyer, co-founder of Jemima’s Playhouse. “I was happily surprised and elated by the way that the children accepted and embraced BahamaMan.  That out-pouring of love greatly encourages us in our mission to help children around the world the world to “Meet Their Imagination”.

Among the distinguished guests attending the BahamaMan Returns Show was long-term Member of Parliament for the Englerston Constituency, and Minister of Education & Technical & Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin.  Minister Hanna-Martin attended to show her support.  She could be seen enjoying the event and inter-acting in a relaxed and seamless way with her constituents.

And then, as if on cue, the heavens opened. Rain poured down across Nassau—the first lashes of a tropical storm that would soak the islands. But by then, BahamaMan had already returned to his secret home, believed to be somewhere underneath the Glass Window Bridge in Eleuthera, leaving behind a memory of joy, laughter, and resilience that no attendee at the BahamaMan Returns Show will ever forget.
